While FWA has existed since the 4G era, its true potential has emerged with 5G. The convergence of mobile and fixed solutions will allow operators to provide consumers with a reliable, flexible, and seamless connectivity experience. “By 2030, we envision 5G FWA as an essential part of the connectivity ecosystem in the Middle East, particularly for remote areas,” Xu emphasizes.

Xu notes, “Fiber broadband provides a solid foundation for applications ranging from high-definition video and online gaming to remote work and education.”
Governments in the Middle East are instrumental in driving fiber deployments through targeted industrial policies, such as Saudi Arabia’s 10Gbps Society whitepaper, UAE’s 10G Nation ambition, and Bahrain’s NTP6 initiative. According to Xu, these policies encourage operators to expand fiber networks by offering incentives like tax deductions and financial subsidies. “Fiber broadband is not just about connectivity; it’s about boosting the digital economy and unlocking new opportunities for innovation and growth,” he explains.
