Hi folks, can anyone tell me if it's possible/realistic to monitor a back up task i have that uses rsync through ssh? It runs over night via internet to an open media vault box (Debian based) and I'd like to be notified of the status in the morning. I currently have an rsync log file that's created and copied over to the remote server but on the first run it's about 135MB and id like to reduce that external traffic. Ideally I was looking to have the remote server create the log file or just even tail the end of it and dump that in am smb share on the network that's local to the omv machine. In short I suppose I'm wondering is if it's possible to have the remote server monitor ssh connections and dump the activity to a file? There's a few different machines out there that use this so I'd rather not have to setup email etc on the clients, prefer to keep the leg work on the server but not sure if what I'm asking is possible .
