Ok so I'm a long time Linux user, Slackware in the past, OpenSUSE most recently. I'm very good with my way around Linux, have Linux Essentials cert, etc. etc. I'm interviewing for a therapist job, part time, where it's BYOD. Running BestNotes software. The requirements are 4GB RAM, 64 Bit Windows 11, 600 MB HDD space, not difficult, right? I had the thought to get a cheap new/used Dell with Linux on it (Red Hat maybe) and just get a premium version of Virtual Box and slap Windows 11 Home on it (paying, of course).
Then use LUKS in the machine setup. That way I am using Virtual Box literally only for Windows 11 so I can run Best Notes. I figured I could run some basic antivirus like ClamAV and restrict what access this virtual Windows has to the internet in order to protect it as strongly as possible.
There is the android device version of Best Notes but it seems that it would be a restricted version, and I don't know enough about this potential job to know if the android version would be incapable of the notes for what I do.
I'm mainly asking for an experience type question: will I be able to see any benefit from Win 11 Home in Virtual Box inside of Linux running LUKS (other than not paying $100 extra for Pro)?
Obviously if I ran Win 11 Home natively, sure, I'd take good antivirus and system hardening protections and such, but I'd probably end up in Win 11 Pro due to wanting BitLocker because I work with HIPAA/PII/PHI. So I'm just trying to figure out if I can gain some good improvements by virtualizing Windows, which is more of an experience question. Please give me your experiences!
