When I look back at my my journey as a student, I can confidently say that Ruby is truly a programmer's best friend. However, as with all good things, our time together has come to an end or pending, anyways. While our friendship may have been short, I remain hopeful that the job market for Ruby will one day experience a revival.
The primary reason for me to leave Ruby behind? The current job market. The demand for "senior" or experienced Ruby developers is high, but opportunities for internships or entry-level positions are virtually non-existent. If you’re lucky enough to find a few, you could count them on one hand.
Javascript in the other hand is way better for getting hired after graduating, there is a lot of opportunities for internships and entry-level positions if you compare it with Ruby & Rails.
Now, you might think this is a debate between front-end and back-end development, but it’s not. It’s a comparison of full-stack versus full-stack. Just as Rails in the Ruby world , adonis.js is doing the same in the JavaScript world, offering a robust framework for building applications.
After all it's just a "job".
