This is a sort of rant but to be honest I am kind of pissed right now. Linux enthusiasts as a group want to support manufacturers that are going to make Linux hardware, we are willing to spend money sometimes even more money than windows or Mac consumers for our hardware to support Linux makers. So can you manufacturers of Linux hardware just stop and make sure your stuff is actually quality and works before you sell it. I am absolutely just done at this point and so friggin annoyed. I bought an S76 laptop I was excited to get it and what did I find... a machine that seemed super brittle, a keyboard with deck flex I have never experienced, and the thing ran so hot even under idle conditions I knew it would just lead to hardware failure. Alright fine maybe that was sort of a fluke so I got a machine from starlabs. Ahh build quality is so nice... Then software issues everywhere. The touchscreen is mid to poor. The pen they sell for it is very inaccurate and maybe could be okay for drawing to some degree but is unusable for writing unless you want to look like your handwriting is from a 2 year old. Then we get to the webcam... So dark and grainy that it is unusable. There is absolutely no setting that even makes the thing usable. Support has been slow to respond and has not been helpful so far. The battery even though advertised at 12 hours is more like 4 - 6 with mixed use. This thing was twice as expensive as my android tablet and while nice is just not capable of meeting my use cases. This is all after I had to replace my Dell XPS with Linux because of the load of problems that thing had. Please if you are going to make Linux hardware just make sure the thing works. Like I am not even asking for extravagance just make sure all the things work on it and are usable. I shouldn't have to go into bios on first boot to fix problems, I shouldn't have to fix driver issues or something within my first day of use, I shouldn't have to open a support ticket within my first 15 minutes of powering on a device. However that has been my experience in nearly every case of buying from a Linux manufacturer in the past 5 - 10 years. Which is wild because I bought Linux hardware from ZaReason back in the day and those machines were pristine and everything worked and I never had an issue. So somehow it's like we've gone backwards or something.
