Hi,
Long story short, I am doing a Phd in Economics and I use my laptop for Latex, R, C, C++, Rust programming and Browsing. I never used my laptop for anything else, other than the occasional YouTube video, so a lot of the apps that is shipped with some of the Distros is just bloatware for me. Never clicked on anything other than Codium, Positron, Firefox, Password Manager and pCloud.
I have used Linux based systems for the last 8 years, so I am quite comfortable with the OS. But I wouldn't be able to customize anything beyond the aliases for the CLI, or debug crashes and broken systems other than copy-pasting from Linux Stack Exchange and hoping for the best.
The distros I have used are the following:
- ZorinOS
- PopOS
- Ubuntu
However, I was thinking about trying out Arch which to my understanding is highly customizable and only installs the bare minimum, and allows me to build from there.
But what are your recommendations for someone who just wants to sudo dpkg -i and sudo apt full-upgrade -y without having to worry about breaking the system?
My laptop is AMD based, so there is no need to consider Nvidia drivers or anything.
Best,
