The problem I was trying to solve



I kept running into the same wall while learning to code.



Watch tutorial. Understand everything. Close laptop.

Open blank screen. Freeze completely.



This is Tutorial Hell.



I realized it wasn't a knowledge problem. I had the

information. What I didn't have was the ability to

think through problems independently.



And here's what made it worse: every AI tool I used

made the problem deeper. ChatGPT gives you the answer

in 3 seconds. Copilot finishes your code before you

think. The faster I got answers, the less I practiced

reasoning.



Every time I googled the answer instead of figuring

it out myself, my brain learned to give up a little

faster.









Why AI tools make it worse



The current generation of AI learning tools optimizes

for speed.



You ask. It answers. You copy. You understand nothing.

The next problem — you're stuck again.



This is not a criticism of these tools. Speed is

genuinely useful. But for learning — specifically for

building independent problem-solving ability — instant

answers are actively harmful.



The brain learns what it practices. If it practices

waiting for answers, it gets better at waiting for

answers.









What ThinkFirst does differently



I built ThinkFirst AI around one idea:



What if AI predicted where you'd fail — before you

answered — and then trained you to think past it?



Here is what ThinkFirst does instead of answering:



1. Predictive Failure

Before asking a single question, ThinkFirst reads your

problem and predicts the most common mistake beginners

make on that specific problem type.



It says something like:




"Most people fail at edge cases like numbers less

than 2 — leading to wrong conclusions. Let's see

if you do."




This is not generic. It is specific to your problem.



2. Socratic Engine

ThinkFirst asks you 2 questions:




  • What do you think the answer might be?

  • Why do you think that?



It never answers. Never hints. Just activates your

thinking.



3. ThinkMap

As you answer, a live visual reasoning map builds

on screen — 4 nodes: Goal → Inputs → Strategy →

Solution.



Each node is color-coded by AI:




  • GREEN = correct reasoning

  • YELLOW = partial, specific gap identified

  • RED = incorrect or missing



The Solution node stays locked until your ThinkMap

is complete.



4. Solution Unlock

Only after demonstrating your reasoning does

ThinkFirst unlock a guided step-by-step solution

path. Not a full answer — a reasoning scaffold.



5. Think Score

A score out of 10 based on your node evaluations,

with a specific insight:




"Think Score: 8/10 — Strong reasoning with

clear logic."




6. Personal Diagnosis

ThinkFirst tells you whether you made the predicted

mistake or avoided it:




"You avoided the most common mistake. You handled

the edge case before writing a single step.

That's strong thinking."










How I built it in MeDo with zero code



I built ThinkFirst entirely through MeDo —

Baidu's no-code AI app builder.



No IDE. No frameworks. No code. Every feature was

described in plain English and MeDo generated the

full implementation.



Here is how I built each core feature:



Multi-turn conversation flow

I described the 5-step Socratic dialogue sequence

to MeDo in natural language. MeDo generated the

entire state management system — tracking which

step the user is on, storing their answers, and

preventing the solution from appearing before

Step 5.



ThinkMap visualization

I described 4 horizontal nodes with color-coding

logic. MeDo generated the full UI component —

fade-in animations, color transitions, the locked

Solution node, and the glow unlock effect.



Predictive Failure System

I described the behavior: read the problem, identify

the most common failure point, deliver a one-sentence

prediction before any question. MeDo wired this to

the LLM plugin and it works on any problem type.



Conditional unlock logic

I described: "solution stays locked until all 3

reasoning nodes are complete." MeDo generated the

conditional UI behavior without a single line of

JavaScript from me.



Progress stepper

4-step visual stepper in the left panel advancing

as the user completes each step. Described in one

sentence. MeDo built it.



The entire product was built in phases over several

days — one feature per MeDo prompt, tested, then

the next feature added.









What surprised me most



The Predictive Failure moment.



When I tested ThinkFirst on the prime number problem,

it said:




"Most people loop to the number itself — forgetting

that factors repeat after the square root. Let's

see if you do."




And I made exactly that mistake.



That moment — an AI predicting my specific blind spot

before I answered — felt genuinely uncanny. It didn't

feel like a chatbot. It felt like a cognitive mirror.



That reaction is what I want every user to feel.









The bigger insight



The most valuable thing I learned building ThinkFirst:



Product differentiation in AI is not always about

giving more. Sometimes it is about strategically

giving less.



By withholding the answer temporarily, ThinkFirst

creates something most AI tools accidentally destroy:

the experience of figuring something out yourself.



That experience is irreplaceable. And it is what

builds real capability.
