The most hyped foldables this year are Apple's iPhone Ultra and Samsung's WIDE Fold 8. Both are set to cost around 2 grand, include no telephoto camera, and look like they were designed by someone's cat knocking the mouse in Photoshop.



As someone who's used foldables on and off for years, the appeal of both is a bit of a mystery to me. Because I thought we already spent the past 7 years figuring out the ideal form factor for a fold: It's the same shape as a phone when it's shut, and when it's open you can easily use 2 or more apps at once.



I've spent the past four months using the global version of the Honor Magic V6, which is the ultimate refinement of your classic tall-style foldable. It demonstrates that foldable phones have reached the point where there really aren't any major compromises compared to a slab phone.



For my money it's the best foldable you can buy -- at least, *currently*, as I'm sitting here in June 2026. And based on what we're seeing from Apple and Samsung's efforts, I would probably choose this over either of the major competitors.
