OpenAI’s First Custom Hardware Could Be a Keyboard Built for Codex

OpenAI is officially getting into the physical product game with a brand new project launching in July. The creator of ChatGPT just shared a teaser revealing plans for a custom input device built specifically for its coding tool. Instead of launching a smartphone or headset right out of the gate, the company is starting small by partnering with an established keyboard maker to give developers a better way to work.

Based on a recent video, OpenAI is working directly with the hardware brand Work Louder. The upcoming device appears to be a modified version of the Creator Micro 2 keyboard. This small board is built just for Codex, giving people physical buttons to trigger their daily coding tasks.

The official release happens on July 15. The company shared online that popular shortcuts are getting a real-world upgrade. This release highlights a clear goal to make its AI models feel like a normal part of a desk setup.
