Apple Prepares To Shrink The Dynamic Island On The New Phones

Almost ten years ago, Apple brought the notch to the world with the release of the iPhone X. That cutout has evolved into the Dynamic Island we see today. But nobody actually wants a blank hole breaking up their screen. According to recent rumors, the upcoming iPhone 18 Pro will take a huge step toward completely removing this famous design element from the top of your display.



The cutout shrinks by 35 percent on the new pro models



The new rumors suggest that the Dynamic Island will shrink by roughly 35 percent compared to the current size. This change will give users more usable screen space by making the cutout far less noticeable. Hints of this shrinking design have also shown up in the new Siri AI layout found inside iOS 27.



This move is part of a larger plan to eventually eliminate screen cutouts across all iPhone models. The shift will not stop at just phones. Leaks point to the upcoming MacBook Ultra dropping its notch in favor of a smaller Dynamic Island, while next year's iPhone 18e might follow the exact same path.



The notch and Dynamic Island have been major parts of the brand's look for years. Still, it is clear its end goal is a clear, edge-to-edge display. This year marks the first real progress toward that completely uninterrupted screen in a long time.
