My Personal Recommendation



If you're a developer asking this question, you probably fall into one of two camps:



Camp A (Minimalist): Get the Fitbit Charge 6. It'll track everything you need, the battery won't stress you out, and you'll have $200 left over for mechanical keyboards.



Camp B (Maximalist): Get the Apple Watch or Galaxy Watch depending on your phone. You'll use the extra features, integrate it into your daily workflow, and enjoy the ecosystem benefits.



Camp C (The Madlad): Buy a Garmin and write a Python script to analyze 11 days of your own biometric data. You know who you are.









One More Thing



Please, for the love of your wrist's long-term health, if you get a smartwatch:




  • Don't wear it 24/7 for months

  • Let your skin breathe

  • Your health metrics aren't actually useful if you ignore them



The best fitness band is the one you'll actually use. And if you're like most developers, you'll use the one that integrates best with your existing tools.
