Consistency Doesn't Look Like a Marked Calendar (Part 2)

If you've read my last post about why most people quit in week one, this is the part that comes after. Because surviving week one isn't the finish line. It's just the entry fee. What comes after is the part nobody shows you either.

Consistency isn't what you see on TV. It isn't a calendar with a neat checkmark on it every single day, same time, same energy, like life politely steps aside while you build your dream.

Life doesn't exist like that. Life just exists, right in the middle of everything you're trying to build.

Here's my version of it.

My wake-up call was forex. I started watching tutorials, lifestyle videos, motivational content, and something in me thought, "this could actually change my life." So I started. Most days, trading, studying charts, trying to understand a market that owes you nothing.

I didn't even have data half the time. I was doing this on a broken Samsung S8 back in October 2023. No perfect setup. No perfect conditions. Just a feeling that I had to put in the effort anyway.

Weeks passed. Months passed. I got into university. New lifestyle, new environment, new pressure. And in the middle of adjusting to all of that, I started web development too. Still broke. Still consuming every bit of content I could find. Still trying to get good.

But things weren't as smooth as I'd imagined.

Forex needed more time than I had. Web dev needed more time than I had. And getting clients wasn't easy either, so I added content creation on top of both, mostly to build a portfolio and a presence. That's three things now, each demanding its own hours, its own learning, its own bulk of information to absorb.

Doing this alone makes it heavier. There's no one clocking in beside you. But the alternative, thinking there's no way forward, isn't really an alternative. So I kept learning. Every day, in some form.

What I'm not sure of, even after three years plus of doing this, is showing up exactly the same way every single day. Some days it's depression. Some days it's life. Relationships, responsibilities, just being a person with a full life outside of code and charts.

I can't do it all, all day, every day. I don't think anyone actually can, no matter what their calendar looks like from the outside.

But I make sure I do something toward it at least once a day. High hopes, sure. But realistic ones.

That's what consistency has actually looked like for me. Not a perfect streak. A person who kept returning to the work, even on days the work didn't return the favor.
