Tom Holland Doubts Movie Symbiote Can Match The Video Game Suit

Tom Holland really likes the recent video games, but his love for them brings up a new problem for the film series. The actor plays the famous web-slinger on the big screen, and he now wonders how any upcoming movie could capture the black alien costume. He thinks the newest Spider-Man game handled the symbiote suit so well that matching it in live action will be difficult.



Holland questions how to create the costume without heavy digital effects



While chatting on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Holland praised the older Spider-Man 3 movie for using a real, physical black suit. But he admitted the recent games took the design to a whole new level. Because the video game featured a very slimy and shifting alien costume, Holland is not sure how a film crew could recreate that specific look in real life.



The main issue comes down to special effects. Holland explained that making a movie suit look like the video game version would take a massive amount of computer graphics. Fans are often split on what the dark outfit should look like. Some people prefer the simple cloth style from older stories, while others want the gooey monster look from the game. If Marvel chooses the monster style, it will have to rely heavily on visual effects.



Relying on computers creates a tough situation. Heavy visual effects can hide the physical acting beneath a superhero mask. In some past movies, computers smoothed out Holland's normal red and blue outfits, removing natural details like wrinkles in the fabric. A piece of the alien was left behind at the end of the last movie, so the story is ready for the black suit.



The studio must find a clever way to blend real costumes with digital polish if it wants to bring the black suit back to theaters in a satisfying way.
