Most CTFs are excellent at teaching a technique. But once the flag is captured, the context often disappears.
We wanted to build something different: a cybersecurity game where every challenge belongs to a larger case, every artifact has a reason to exist, and technical progress moves a story forward.
That project is Sylvarcon 2049.
What is Sylvarcon 2049?
Sylvarcon 2049 is a story-driven CTF platform built around cybersecurity investigations and managed remote labs.
Players work through missions that combine:
- digital forensics and incident response (DFIR)
- OSINT
- ethical hacking
- evidence analysis
- narrative decisions and case progression
The goal is not to replace traditional practice platforms. It is to add the part they often leave out: context.
A command matters more when you understand why you are running it. A log entry becomes memorable when it changes your theory of the case. A flag feels more satisfying when it unlocks the next piece of the investigation.
The player loop
A typical mission follows a simple loop:
- Receive a briefing and understand the incident.
- Inspect the available evidence and identify what is missing.
- Enter a managed remote lab when hands-on work is required.
- Connect technical findings to the story.
- Submit the flag and continue the case.
This lets beginners follow a clear objective while experienced players can focus on methodology, speed and alternative paths.
Why make it narrative?
Cybersecurity work rarely arrives as a clean list of commands. It arrives as incomplete information, conflicting signals, time pressure and people who do not yet know what happened.
Narrative design gives us a useful way to model that reality.
Instead of asking only “Can you find the flag?”, we can ask:
- What happened?
- Which evidence supports that conclusion?
- What should you investigate next?
- How confident are you?
- What consequence does your decision have?
That makes the challenge more than a puzzle. It becomes a case file.

- a connected cyberpunk universe called the Lazarus Protocol
This is a live product, not a crowdfunding promise. We are now looking for the first group of players who will test the missions, tell us where the learning curve breaks, and help shape what comes next.
