The misleading way people talk about linux nowdays

To start off I would like to express that I have endless respect for the open source community and I'm not complaining, I'm just really annoyed about the way that people try to sell linux to new users.

My experience with linux is as follows:

Some time in the beginning of this year I made the switch, after thinking about it for a long time. I chose mint and it worked flawlessly for a couple of months, I never tinkered with it and only installed well known trusted apps and downloaded the newest updates from the distros update manager.

After those couple month of bliss, my computer started requiring manual fsck nearly every time I shut it down, and most steam games just stopped working, I dealt with it for a while but decided to switch to cachyOS a couple of months back.

Same thing as before, a smooth OS with even better gaming performance than mint, the only issue I had, was firefox constantly crashing when watching youtube or jellyfin, but switching to brave fixed that. Today I saw that I had a lot of updates because I hadn't used the pc in a couple of days, and I decided to install them. After rebooting I couldn't access my os at all. Eventually I got it working by booting through usb and reinstalling the kernel.

Now for my actual issue, people (especially tech youtubers) talk about linux having some minor incompatibility issues and other difficulties but neglect to mention "Hey your entire pc might just shit the bed because you installed an update from the distros own update manager"

Gonna roll with cachyOS for now, but if things like this keep happening, I'm gonna switch again, either to another distro, or if I'm desperate I'll try a debloated version of microsofts spy/bloatware

Is stuff like this common or am I just really unlucky? I never wanna go back to windows but when the other option is my operating system deciding to off itself randomly, I don't think I can stay on linux either. I consider myself a tinkerer and I like problem solving but this is just too much. I get that it's kind of stupid to get annoyed about dysfunctional free software, but I would like to hear some takes on this from people who are actually experienced with linux.
