7 Shopify Performance Optimizations That Improved My Store's Core Web Vitals

As a Shopify developer, I've learned that a beautiful store isn't enough. If your pages are slow, visitors leave before they even see your products.

While working on a jewelry store project, I focused on improving Core Web Vitals without sacrificing design.

Here are the biggest improvements that made a noticeable difference.

  1. Compress Images Before Uploading

Large product images are usually the biggest performance issue.

Instead of uploading 5–10 MB files, optimize them first and use modern formats whenever possible.

Result:

Faster page load

Better Largest Contentful Paint (LCP)

  1. Lazy Load Non-Critical Images

Images below the fold shouldn't load immediately.

Lazy loading reduces initial page weight and improves perceived performance.

  1. Reduce App Bloat

Every installed Shopify app adds JavaScript, CSS, or external requests.

I regularly audit apps and remove anything that's no longer essential.

  1. Use Shopify's Native Features First

Before installing an app, check whether Shopify already supports the feature.

Native functionality is almost always faster and easier to maintain.

  1. Optimize Custom Liquid Code

Avoid unnecessary loops and repeated database lookups.

Small Liquid optimizations can make templates render much faster.

  1. Minimize Third-Party Scripts

Analytics, chat widgets, review platforms, and tracking pixels all compete for loading time.

Only load what your store truly needs.

  1. Monitor Core Web Vitals Regularly

Performance isn't something you optimize once.

I regularly monitor:

LCP

CLS

INP

PageSpeed Insights

Search Console

This helps catch issues before they affect rankings.
