Claude Code Now Allows Multiple Sessions To Message Each Other

Anthropic recently released a highly useful feature for developers who run multiple terminal windows at once. The latest version of Claude Code allows different open sessions to send messages directly to one another. Users working on complex projects can now have the tool coordinate tasks across various active tabs without ever needing to manually copy and paste context between them on their macOS and Linux machines.



The feature sends summaries between windows to help coordinate tasks



Anthropic announced that this messaging system is available starting with version 2.1.224 of the software. Instead of moving your entire chat history or all your project files over to a new window, the tool sends a quick summary. The receiving window picks up the message mid-task and continues working. This saves you from having to re-explain your current status every time you open a new terminal.



The company shared a few specific ways this messaging tool comes in handy. It works well when you need to hand over a recent finding, coordinate parallel worktrees, or get a status update from a task that takes a long time to finish. You can even use it to send replies across different computers. You do not need to write the message yourself. You just provide the basic information you want to share, and the assistant handles the writing.



Even with this new communication ability, the software still respects security settings. You might be used to the strict permission controls on Apple computers, and this update does not bypass them. Cross-session messaging cannot approve permission requests or alter core configurations.



Commands sent between windows arrive as plain text. If a transferred message requires special access to execute a command, the receiving window will still pause and ask you for approval first.
