Apple’s All-Glass iPhone for 2027 May Have Been Canceled

Apple’s rumored all-glass iPhone for the 20th anniversary in 2027 may no longer be moving forward, according to a new analyst note that points to production problems and weak manufacturing yields.



Jefferies analyst Edison Lee believes Apple has canceled the ambitious redesign after supply chain checks suggested that the company could not reach acceptable yields for the planned glass-heavy design. The project had been linked to a major visual change for the iPhone, with earlier reports pointing to a curved glass body and a more seamless display.



Barron’s reported that Lee used the possible cancellation as one reason behind Jefferies’ decision to downgrade Apple stock to “Underperform.” He also cited Apple’s AI strategy and rising component costs for future iPhone models.



Lee estimated that the 20th anniversary iPhone could have reached a blended retail price of about $2,060 if Apple had launched it in September 2027. He also believed Apple planned to bring parts of the design to later Pro and Pro Max models, which would have helped raise average selling prices as memory costs continued to increase.



Apple’s 2027 iPhone redesign may still survive in another form



The analyst note does not clearly confirm whether Apple has canceled the entire 20th anniversary redesign or only the all-glass version of the project.



Earlier rumors suggested Apple was developing a quad-curved design with glass wrapping around more of the device, while other reports indicated that the company may still struggle to remove the Dynamic Island completely by 2027.



Apple has never confirmed the all-glass iPhone project, so the final design remains uncertain until more supply chain reports provide additional details.
