Why Great Tech Brands Self-Destruct

OnePlus used to promise that it'd Never Settle.

But this past month, it settled for pulling out of Western markets completely. It settled for switching long-term software support to Oppo's ColorOS. And it settled for shuttering the North American forum community that had taken it from scrappy startup to major enthusiast brand.

OnePlus isn't alone in the graveyard of once-mighty tech titans. Years earlier, LG cast off its entire mobile division after years of unique efforts that failed to gain traction. And, HTC once outsold Apple in America, but today is a shadow of its former self, and mainly focused on VR.

All three eventually arrived in the same graveyard -- but by three completely different routes. So today we're going to take a step back and examine how each of these once-great manufacturers rose to power before falling from grace. Let's get into it.
