This Android Laptop Was 15 Years Too Early

This year Google launches its first Googlebook laptops, as the company finally gets serious about challenging Microsoft and Apple on the desktop. But these won't be the first Google-authorized, Android-powered notebooks.

In March 2011, before the first consumer Chromebooks had even launched, ASUS brought us this remarkable convertible oddity. The ASUS EeePad Transformer came with the tablet version of Android 3 Honeycomb, and by plugging its tablet display into the bundled keyboard dock, could essentially become an Android-powered laptop computer.

As a tech nerd in the early-2010s it was a device that I coveted but never actually owned. And now, a decade and a half later and with true Google Android laptops arriving soon, it seemed like the right time for a retrospective.
