If an important file suddenly goes missing, it may not be completely gone. First, look in the Trash, which is your safety net against accidentally deleting files. But even if it is not there, you may find it in iCloud Recently Deleted or be able to recover it from your Time Machine backup. Or, it could be that the file hasn't really been deleted...
